It's not for nothing that hypertension is nicknamed the "silent killer".

Although it usually has no symptoms, it is partly responsible for nearly 30% of deaths in Canada.

The fight against hypertension

Today, the SQHA Foundation is reaching out to its institutional partners and community to help raise the $1,5 million, or $300,000 a year for 5 years, that will enable it to achieve its essential goals of prevention, screening and improved control of hypertension.

Reversing an appalling trend

For the first time in 20 years, the proportion of people treated for high blood pressure has fallen by 60%, and the proportion controlled by 75%. Women suffer most from this deterioration. Hypertension is the main risk factor for stroke. It is also a major risk factor for coronary events such as myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure and limb artery disease.

It's crucial to give SQHA the ammunition it needs to curb this silent killer.

About SQHA

For over 30 years, the Société québécoise d’hypertension artérielle (SQHA) has been committed to advancing knowledge in the field of hypertension to help healthcare professionals, patients and the general public prevent and control the disease. Given the growing complexity of hypertension and its increasing prevalence at all ages, the SQHA is today launching a fundraising campaign to support its training, information, research and development activities.
